Family Discovery Day
promises great fun for the entire family
you don’t want to miss!

Discovery Harbour will present a variety packed Family Discovery Day on Saturday July 26, as part of the historic site’s exciting 200th Year Celebrations this summer.

The event will provide a fun, interactive day for families with great activities, music, and demonstrations.  Kids of all ages will delight in touching the “Creepy Crawlies” from Scales Nature Park, doing face painting with the incomparable Mabel Moon, and enjoying the entertaining antics of “Juggling Joe”.  Don’t miss the swashbuckling magic of Captain Corbin and Cousin Molly who’ll perform twice throughout the day on the historic site. Children can even make their own pirate hats in the Children’s Centre, as well as construct a simple wooden ship model to take home. Nautical buffs will love the superb collection of model boats displayed by the Metro Marine Modellers, and more heritage activities including 19th century games, quill pen writing, blacksmithing demonstrations, and tours of the original 1836 Officers’ Quarters.

Families can operate lively dancing marionettes known as Bonhome Gigeurs, enjoy a special interactive craft area by the Métis Nation of Ontario, and visit adorable sheep Baa and donkey Donk.  A local area descendant’s display will be set up by the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum, and the Penetanguishene Fire Department will show their colours with their aerial truck and vintage engine.  Tasty food will be available from an on-site BBQ hosted by Captain Roberts’ Table Restaurant.

Music will include Discovery Harbour’s own SaltySailor Singers performing Sea chanties throughout the day, and interactive, hands-on drumming sessions with families with the dynamic Toronto group Drum Café.

Family Discovery Day is at Discovery Harbour on Saturday, July 26. For further information on Discovery Harbour’s 200th Year Celebrations, visit hhp.on.ca.
