British Return to the King’s Wharf Theatre!

British Return to the King’s Wharf Theatre!
Tuesday, July 29th, 2014
PENETANGUISHENE– ‘Come on, come on’ to the King’s Wharf Theatre for a spectacular tribute to the music that rocked the world in Twist and Shout: The British Invasion. This energetic production celebrates the artists and songs that sparked a musical revolution, on stage four weeks only from August 7th to August 30th.
Conceived, written and directed by Drayton Entertainment’s Artistic Director, Alex Mustakas, Twist and Shout: The British Invasion is one of the most popular productions in the organization’s history. First staged in 2005 at the King’s Wharf Theatre in Penetanguishene followed by a record breaking run at the Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend, the show was an instant hit. This revival, which also marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles coming to America, is poised to take summer audiences by storm.
In the early 1960s, groundbreaking British music began to drift across the ocean and invade North America, and the bands themselves soon followed. The Dave Clark Five was the first band to tour America and soon after four mop tops called The Beatles crossed the pond, forever changing the landscape of modern music.
The revolution that followed is expressed with glorious emotion in this fun-filled revue that features classic songs by The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Hollies, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Searchers, Dave Clark Five, Herman’s Hermits, and many, many more.
“The ‘60s was an exciting time of revolutionary music that had an enormous impact on me personally,” says creator Alex Mustakas. “I am really looking forward to sharing this vibrant revival with our summer patrons.”
Light-hearted comedy, groovy fashions, swinging dance numbers and the music that shaped a generation is brought together in this imaginative, infectious, and immensely irresistible piece of ‘60s nostalgia.
Over 60 show-stopping hits are performed by a first-rate ensemble of performers, including Alex Black, Lindsay Croxall, Gerrad Everard, Jennifer Kee, Duff MacDonald, Sarah Matton, Robert Markus, Laura Mae Nason, Nicholas Nesbitt, Yvan Pednault, Nick Settimi and Valerie Stanois.
Ted Simonett is the charismatic TV host and star of The Roy Solomon Show, around which the production is centered. Simonett takes theatre audiences back to a simpler time, reminiscent of the days when families gathered together around the television set to watch the hottest acts of the day perform on The Ed Sullivan Show.
“The set is fantastic,” says Mustakas. “We’ve acquired some authentic retro-style equipment in order to make the auditorium feel like a TV studio sound stage. It sets the right mood for audiences to relax, let loose, and have FUN!”
Working alongside Mustakas to mount this incredible show are Choreographer Gino Berti, Music Director Robert Foster, Lighting Designer Jeff Johnston Collins and Costume Designer Jessica Bray. The Original Set Designers for Twist and Shout: The British Invasion are Craig Guthrie and Richard Lawlor.
Twist and Shout: The British Invasion is proudly sponsored by John Sharp Images. Media Sponsors are Jewel 88.5 and The Mirror. The Design Sponsor is H.S. St. Amant & Sons Inc. The 2014 Media Season Sponsor is CTV.
Twist and Shout: The British Invasion will have theatregoers rockin’ in their seats eight shows a week, August 7th through August 30th. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.kingswharftheatre.com, in person at the King’s Wharf Theatre Box Office, or by calling (519) 549-5555 or toll free 1-855- DRAYTON (372-9866).

Concert VI, featuring legendary classic rock icon The Steve Miller Band, on November 19, 2014 at the
Casino Rama Entertainment Centre.

“We’re very excited to bring to Simcoe County our sixth and largest Radio for Radiation Benefit Concert,”
says Paul Larche, President of Larche Communications Inc. (LCI) and owner of 104.1 The DOCK and

104.1 The DOCK and KICX 106 have pledged half a million dollars to support the new Simcoe Muskoka

“We could not do this without the generosity of Casino Rama” says Larche. “They are donating their
entire facility and Entertainment Centre amenities at no charge.”
The Steve Miller Band has sold more than 30 million records in a career spanning more than 40 years. In
its early years, the Steve Miller Band was a cornerstone of the burgeoning underground FM rock radio

an instant anthem, a breakthrough smash that shot all the way to No. 1. His 1978 album, "Greatest Hits
1974-78," became one of the best-selling releases of all-time, selling millions every year through the end
of the century. At the height of the classic rock movement, the Steve Miller Band was one of the defining
figures.

Hit songs, from 17 studio albums and three live albums, include "Rock 'n Me," "Fly Like an Eagle," "Jet
Airliner," "Jungle Love," "Swingtown," "The Joker" and "Abracadabra."
The benefit show will open with special guests “Sonic Coalition”, a local band made up of business
professionals who have helped raise over $500,000 for local charities. Sonic Coalition are Gerry Pilon,
Jim Fairhead. Chris Adams and Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman.
The Radio for Radiation Benefit Concert starts at 8pm on Wednesday, November 19 at the Casino Rama

ABOUT RADIO FOR RADIATION

In mid-2011, KICX 106 and 104.1 The Dock reach their goal of raising over $500,000 for their Radio for
Radiology campaign, and the purchase of a new interventional radiology machine.
In November 2011, the stations pledged an additional $500,000, raising funds towards the purchase of a
CT simulator suite in the new Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre (SMRCC). The campaign is now
called “Radio for Radiation Campaign”
The addition of a new CT Simulator suite in the new SMRCC allows people in Orillia, Midland, Barrie and
all of Simcoe County to get treatment close to home, instead of the recent situation, which saw many
patients experiencing the additional cost, wait and disruption of going to Toronto for treatment. The reality
is that most of us, or a loved one, will have to deal with cancer in our lives. It’s a very stressful time. It’s
critical that residents in our region have the best, most convenient and timely care available. With help
from our many listeners and clients, the funding of a new CT Simulator suite for the new SMRCC will do
precisely that.
The CT simulator suite is the first step in the radiation therapy planning process and allows the cancer
team to “see” a patient’s internal structures like tissue, organs and bones. This visualization helps determine the specific positioning of patients during radiation.

King's Wharf Theatre gets ready to launch Canadian Comedy Thriller

Canadian Comedy Thriller at King’s Wharf Theatre
Tuesday, July 8th, 2014

PENETANGUISHENE – If you love a good ghost story, you don’t want to miss the thriller of the summer at the King’s Wharf Theatre. Laugh-out-loud funny and scream-out-loud scary, I’ll Be Back Before Midnight is a roller coaster play of emotions, on stage for three weeks beginning July 16th.
“I’ll Be Back Before Midnight is guaranteed to have audiences on the edge of their seats,” says Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment.  “It’s a perfect mix of comedy and fright. There are plenty of laughs contrasted by stomach-dropping plot twists, special effects and tension that builds from the first line, and leaves the audience exhilarated.”
After a nervous breakdown, an emotionally fragile Jan and her archaeologist husband Greg rent an old farmhouse in the country near an archaeological dig where Greg can continue his studies and Jan can recover. But their dream of solitude in the country quickly becomes a nightmare when their new landlord (and neighbour), decides to divulge that a terrible murder once took place in the farmhouse and a vengeful ghost is reported to stalk the night.
The line between reality and imagination becomes blurred as Jan is tormented by strange sounds in the night and visions of the spirit. Is she having another breakdown? Is someone trying to drive her mad?  When she tries to defend herself from the apparition, events take an unexpected turn during a night of unimaginable suspense.
Bringing this gripping comedy to life is Director James Kall, who takes a seat in the director’s chair after performing with Drayton in the 2012 nail-biting mystery Sleuth at the St. Jacob’s Country Playhouse in Waterloo. A theatre veteran with an impressive list of credits, Kall draws on a wealth of experience to lead a dynamic cast in this spirited production.
Daniela Vlaskalic, who was last seen by Drayton audiences in the delightful comedy, How the Other Half Loves, takes on the role of the sweet but terribly tense Jan Sanderson. Making his Drayton Entertainment debut as Jan’s supportive husband, Greg Sanderson, is Andy Pogson. Elana Post creates further tension in this sharp-witted thriller as Greg’s manipulative sister, Laura Sanderson. Sandy Winsby is the seemingly well-intentioned neighbour, George Willowby who adds plenty of levity throughout this fast-paced play with his tall tales and raucous laugh.
Working alongside Kall to mount this spine-tingling show is an exceptional Creative Team that includes Set Designer Samantha Burson, Lighting Designer Steve Lucas, Costume Designer Jenine Kroeplin and Fight Director, Joe Bostick.
“This production is a great way to keep theatregoers engaged and entertained throughout the summer,” says Mustakas. “The intimate atmosphere of the King’s Wharf Theatre is the ideal setting for this original comedy thriller.”
I’ll Be Back Before Midnight has been described by The Globe & Mail as the most widely produced stage play in Canadian history.  It has been produced in 29 countries, 48 of the 50 states in the U.S. and every province in Canada.  It has broken numerous box office records including two record-breaking UK National Tours.  It was made into a Hollywood feature film starring Heather Locklear, Ned Beatty, Robert Carradine, and Susannah York.
I’ll Be Back Before Midnight is proudly sponsored by John and Terry Hamilton.  Media Sponsors are KICX 106FM and Orillia Today. Design Sponsor is Super 8 Hotels. The 2014 Media Season Sponsor is CTV.
I’ll Be Back Before Midnight will scare audiences silly from July 16th to August 2nd. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.kingswharftheatre.com, in person at the King’s Wharf Theatre Box Office, or by calling 705-549-0711 or toll free 1-855- DRAYTON (372-9866).
